6 High Protein Snacks to Help You Throughout the Day

Protein has the ability to keep you fuller, longer throughout the day. Protein is a hunger-busting powerhouse as it has the ability to slow digestion and keep blood sugar steady, which helps to keep cravings at bay. Alexandra Oppenheimer, RD, of Ambitious & Nutritious says, "Protein can help you lose weight because it increases satisfaction, and when you feel satisfied from your eating plan, you're better able to stick with it." Here are 5 protein-packed snacks that you can take with you anywhere.

Single-serve cottage cheese

A single-serving container of cottage cheese boasts 3 grams more protein than a typical serving of Greek yogurt. In addition, it is a great source of bone-building calcium. It is important to keep in mind it runs high in sodium.

Hardboiled egg

In addition to protein, the modest egg gives you a hearty dose of vitamin D and vitamin B. Hard boiled eggs are easy to take on the run.

Peanut butter pack

Peanut butter is a great source of protein.  You can smear it onto just about anything for a delicious and healthy snack. Smear on a banana to up the antioxidants and fibre, spread it on some rice crackers or dip sliced apple into your peanut butter.

Edamame

In addition to hunger busting protein, they are a great source of fibre. The combo of protein and fibre is potent against hunger.

Roasted chickpeas

These beans offer a rich amount of protein and fibre. Research shows that daily serving of dietary pulses like chickpeas (as well as beans, lentils, and peas) can lower LDL cholesterol levels, according to research in the Canadian Medical Association Journal. You can make your own by mixing rinsed and drained chickpeas in a bowl with olive oil and your choice of spices (such as chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper) and then baking them in an oven preheated on moderate heat for about 45 minutes.
