Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder where a person has a fear of leaving a safe environment. It is also known as a fear of public places, especially crowds and busy public areas. People with agoraphobia may avoid leaving home for fear that they will not be able to receive help if needed when in a public place. Treatment for agoraphobia can include medication, cognitive behavioural therapy, gradual exposure therapy and counselling.
