Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection that can affect men and women. If left untreated it may damage the reproductive system and cause infertility. It is referred to as the ‘silent infection’ as there are not often symptoms and many people will not realise that they have it. If symptoms occur, they may include abnormal vaginal/penile discharge, burning sensation when urinating, lower abdominal pain, lower back pain, nausea, fever, and pain during intercourse. It can be treated with antibiotics.
