Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder which can be caused by an intolerance or abnormal reaction to gluten. The disease damages the small intestine and impacts its ability to absorb nutrients. Symptoms include bloating, flatulence, diarrhoea, constipation, loss of appetite, anaemia, weight loss, stunted growth, abdominal pain or cramps, nausea and vomiting, and tiredness. Treatments include a gluten free diet, corticosteroids and treatments for nutritional deficiencies.
