Dysentery is caused by bacteria which causes infection or inflammation in the colon. Contaminated food or water or contact with another infected person can introduce the bacteria into the body. Amoebic dysentery is caused by a tiny parasite called an amoeba. Dysentery can cause stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, fever and rectal pain. It usually fades on its own but can also be treated with antibiotics, replacement fluids, Aryuveda, homeopathy, herbal remedies and acupuncture.
