Food intolerances do not affect the immune system but are a reaction to specific foods such as lactose or food additives. Symptoms can include nausea, stomach pain, bloating, cramps, heartburn, diarrhea, headaches, gas and irritability. Food intolerances can be hard to identify but people use food diaries or elimination diets to identify specific intolerances. Once identified, they can then be eliminated or reduced from the everyday diet.
