Hemorrhoids are swollen blood vessels in and around the anus. There are a number of causes for hemorrhoids which can be both internal and external. Symptoms of haemorrhoids include noticing blood during bowel movements, an itchy rectum and a soft lump on the anus. Haemorrhoids can be treated with increased fibre and fluids, medications or creams, surgery in some cases and increase in physical activity. Alternative therapies such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbal remedies, Ayurveda and homeopathy can also help treat haemorrhoids.
