Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by obsession and compulsion. Obsessions are recurrent thoughts which may be unwanted but are very difficult to stop. Compulsions are characterised by the repetition of certain rituals, helping to stop thoughts from recurring. People with OCD might find it hard to throw away things, have obsessions with germs and dirt and need to check things repeatedly.
