Phobias are intense fears of a specific situation or object which are illogical, persistent and intense. A person who has a phobia will feel strongly about avoiding the object or situation which provokes their fear. Despite knowing that the fear is irrational or doesn’t make sense, they cannot help but feel a real sense of fear, displaying symptoms such as nausea, anxiety, dizziness and breathlessness. Medication, cognitive behavioural therapy and desensitization can help manage the symptoms associated with phobia induced reactions.
