Preeclampsia is a pregnancy condition which is the precursor to eclampsia and is characterized by high blood pressure, swelling and problems with kidney function. It most commonly occurs after 37 weeks of pregnancy however can occur anytime during the second half. Treatment options include bed rest, magnesium sulfate, hospitalization and medication and delivering the baby if possible. Nutritional therapy, herbal therapy and acupuncture are also helpful.
