A slipped disc occurs when the a soft part of a disc swells and pushes on the spinal cord or surrounding nerves. The lower back is the most common area for slipped disc and can result from age or injury. A slipped disc will cause severe back pain, spasm, stiffness and difficulty in movement. Bed rest is the initial treatment however, medication, physiotherapy, surgery, osteopathy, massage and chiropractic can treat a slipped disc.
