Syphilis is a disease which can be sexually transmitted or in pregnant women, via the placenta to an unborn baby. Symptoms of syphilis exhibit in three distinct stages. In the first stage, a small sore or number of, painless sores called a chancre can appear. Skin rash, fever, sore throat, headaches, hair loss, muscle ache and fatigue are all symptoms of the second stage. The third stage of the disease shows damage to the internal organs and can exhibit as paralysis, numbness, gradual blindness, dementia and poor coordination.
