Tonsillitis is caused by a bacterial or viral infection, resulting in the inflammation or swelling of the tonsils. Symptoms include a sore throat, pain during swallowing, fever, headache, stomachache, earache, bad breath and swollen lymph glands. Treatments available include antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), surgery, fluid replacement, herbal remedies, homeopathy as well as dietary supplements.
