Welcome to Graham Nash ReflexologyPracticing Reflexology in Wester Ross
I live with my wife Val, two children and countless animals by Loch Maree - a location from which I cover the whole of Wester Ross. Essentially this means from Dundonnell in the north to Lochcarron in the south and all stops in between - Laide, Aultbea, Gairloch, Kinlochewe, Achnasheen, Torridon and Shieldaig to name a few. I travel to Easter Ross and Inverness too.
Reflexology is similar in principle to Acupuncture but involves no needles and works using the feet and, sometimes, the hands. Picture your body as a highly sophisticated organic computer. Most of the time it is able to sort out problems as they arise and keep your body systems in balance - and you, healthy. On occasion, however, your organic computer needs some help from an organic IT consultant - a Reflexologist!
Now imagine your feet as the keyboard for your body's computer. By manipulating that keyboard a Reflexologist can input instructions and send messages to all parts of the body and help to get your body systems back on track and help your body to heal itself.
Self-healing is always our aim. Most of the time your body can manage this exceptionally well; sometimes, however, it needs a little outside help. That's where I come in!
Reflexology is 'Cause' rather than 'Symptom' based. Let us suppose that you experience regular headaches, for example. Conventional medicine may prescribe you with painkillers to treat your symptoms. A Reflexologist will try to get to the root of your headaches and establish WHY you experience them, and then work to alleviate them from within.
It is safe, pleasant and therapeutic and - of huge relevance and importance - does not involve prescribing the patient any form of medication. In fact, I find that I have to treat many of my clients as much for the side-effects produced by prescribed medication as for a core condition!
Reflexology is best practiced in conjunction with conventioal Medicine. Hence, it is described as a 'Complementary' therapy. I am NOT a Doctor myself but I have a Professional Practitioners Certificate in Advanced Clinical Reflexology, have lectured in the subject at UHI Moray College and carry Professional Insurance.
I work largely on a mobile basis and bring all of the necessary equipment with me - ie: special reclining chair, stool, creams/sprays, towels etc. I also offer treatments at a number of local hotels.
Reflexology can be beneficial to all manner of conditions - major and minor, and for animals as well as people - but is also deeply relaxing and therapeutic even to those in 'perfect' health.
I see the benefits of treatment every day and am passionate about my work. Please read on and find out more about Reflexology as a therapy and just some of the conditions for which it can be beneficial. Then, if you are interested, please contact me, as I may very well be able to help.

What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a form of therapeutic massage which is carried out on the feet and, sometimes, the hands.
Although some might say that the therapy has been 'invented' or 'discovered' in the last hundred years, it is actually the case that it has been RE-discovered in the modern era and the name 'Reflexology' has been attached to it.
The origins of Reflexology are ancient - certainly dating back several thousand years and probably originating in the far East; certainly there are striking similarities to ancient Chinese practices, including Acupuncture.
It is all to easy to scoff at and dismiss ancient therapies in this age of technology and 'wonder drugs' but simply because ancient cultures and civilisations did not have access to technology and modern medicine it does not mean that they were without knowledge. Far from it, they were frequently far more in-tune with, and 'intuitive' about, their bodies, health and surroundings than we are today. Many people would argue that we have become far too dependant on technological and pill-based remedies, not to mention their frequent side-effects.
Chinese medicine, for example, has always believed - and still believes - that every living thing is possessed of a living energy - a life force - that they call 'Chi'. Chi flows through energy channels in the body known as meridians, and while the life energy is flowing freely the body and mind are at ease, in balance and therefore healthy. A blockage or disruption to the flow, however, can result in 'dis-ease', imbalance and illness. The human body has a wondrous innate ability to heal itself but sometimes it needs a helping hand - or foot!
Acupuncture works on these principles and so, too, does Reflexology. But whereas acupuncture uses needles at various 'reflex points' along the various meridians (often at a site remote from the source of pain), Reflexology applies pressure to reflex points on the feet (and, on occasion, the hands). But for all it is a gentle therapy it can be hugely effective.
What Conditions Can it Help?
Reflexologists who are registered with the Association of Reflexologists (AOR) abide by a very strict Code of Ethics. We DO NOT Prescribe, Diagnose or Agree to treat a specific ailment. We are not Doctors! As complementary therapists we work WITH and not in competition with Doctors and other health professionals.
However, while we would never claim to be miracle workers, there are very few conditions that cannot benefit from a course of Reflexology. Some conditions respond better than others to the therapy and, likewise, some clients respond better than others.
In fact, rather than list the conditions which a Reflexologist CAN treat, it is easier - and briefer - to mention those which CANNOT be treated.
