Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle type of osteopathic treatment, which works to release stresses in the body. As it is such a gentle treatment it is suitable for all ages. from the very young to the very old Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel subtle shape changes through the body. known as the involuntary mechanism. These shape changes often cause strains and pressures in the body and cranial treatment helps to release these tensions.
Cranial osteopathy for babies and children
Many people think that babies and children shouldn’t have any problems with their bones and muscles as they are young, but in fact often the opposite is true. Being born can be one of the most stressful events in our life. Not only are babies squashed and squeezed by the uterus, but also they have to twist and turn as they make their way through their mothers pelvis.
Babies’ heads are very soft and mould to pressure during birth, but sometimes the pressures are so great that their soft bones overlap or warp as they come out. It is not unusual for babies to be born with odd-shaped heads and many settle down in a few days. However often this re-moulding process is incomplete and the result is that the baby may have to live with some very uncomfortable stresses within its head and body.
As children grow the effect of the moulding from birth can cause other problems. Some examples are repeat coughs and colds, ear infections or behavioural problems. Stresses on the body can deplete the immune system and leave the child more vulnerable to infections.

Group courses are run on a monthly basis and last 4 weeks. The classes are small so you will receive excellent tuition.
Oil, towels and course notes are provided, so all you need to do is turn up and learn some great massage strokes.
At the end of each class, there is an opportunity to chat with other mums and eat some tasty treats!
At the end of the course you will receive a certificate, a gift for your baby and will hopefully have made some new friends.
The baby massage courses are run by Elizabeth Curphey, Registered Osteopath.
Elizabeth’s expertise in baby massage and the benefits it brings both you and baby is complemented by her osteopathic skills and experience.
Class sizes are kept small to enable you and your baby to get individual attention as well as making it easier for friendships to form. Individual courses are available.
