Welcome to Abbey Place Clinic

Podiatry is a constant evolving profession, the extensive training enables podiatrists to treat a vast array of foot and lower limb problems. Along with the most obvious treatment for corns and hard skin, specialists exist within the profession for almost any lower limb problem.

Chiropody (podiatry) is the study and care of the foot, including its normal structure, its diseases and their treatment.

It is a branch of medicine for which there is an ever increasing demand due to the more general awareness about foot care and foot problems which can occur at any age.

The function of the foot is to act as an interface between the body and supporting surface in standing and walking.

Routine Foot care

Problems such as corns, calluses, thickened and in-grown toenails, fungal infections of the nail and foot, are dealt with efficiently and painlessly and advice is given on general foot care and hygiene.

Verrucae Treatment

Verrucae are a growth on the skin caused by the Human Papillomavirus. Most will clear spontaneously within two years. However they are often tender on the soles of the feet and treatments are available to relive the pain.

Wilde-Pedique plus toe nail correction

Nail diseases can be treated permanently and successfully with nail cosmetic treatments. A toe nail may be restored partially or completely providing an attractive cosmetic result. It may also be used with various treatments including nail braces. All nails may be treated with this technique with a French look finish, in effect new toe nails for old.




Appointments and Costs

Initial chiropody appointment

Comprises of taking a full medical history, a peripheral vascular and neurological assessment of the lower limb, a treatment plan and explanation of client concerns. Full treatment of both feet. For this appointment you will need to bring with you a list of medication taken by you.

1 hour 15 mins £36

Subsequent chiropody treatments

Additional appointments as necessary to individual treatment plan. Please advise any changes to your medication or health as this may affect your treatment.

30-45 mins £26

Biomechanical consultation;

For new patients Comprises of taking a full medical history, a peripheral vascular and neurological assessment of the lower limb. A preliminary investigation with a view to a full biomechanical examination.

1 hour 15mins £36

Biomechanical examination and gait analysis;

Includes the examination of the body, looking at ranges of motion, posture and gait analysis. Casting of the foot for bespoke orthotics.

2 hours £80 (orthotics not included)

Biomechanics and Orthotics

Corns, calluses, pain of the foot, ankle, and knee or back maybe a symptomatic of an underlying condition, or lack of functional control within the biomechanics of the foot. Through biomechanical examination and gait analysis these symptoms may be alleviated with the use orthotics.

What is biomechanics?

Biomechanics is the scientific study of the mechanics of biological systems of the body. It brings together features of anatomy, physiology, physics and mechanical engineering. Gait (walking) is influenced by the shape, position and functions of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular structures and are influenced by ligamentous and capsular constraints at the involved joints.

What is an orthotic?

It is in insole that is specially manufactured to exacting specifications. It is designed to control, and / or correct impaired limb function. It is designed to alleviate foot pain, accommodate abnormalities, inflamed or calloused area and provide cushioning or shock absorbency or the patient who stands or walks all day. in gait patterns, accommodate sore, inflamed or calloused area.
