Psychotherapy and counselling.
It is hard to talk about feelings like sadness, anger, fear, hate, loss and helplessness.
Often this is because we are worried about burdening friends and family.
Sometimes we feel ashamed of such difficult feelings, or we feel friends and family are “part of the problem”.
Talking with a counsellor or psychotherapist can help us better understand our feelings and reactions to things in life.
Then we can look at how we might make more of those things which are working for us and change the things that are not.
About Me
I have been practicing psychotherapy and counselling for over 12 years.
I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy from The School of Psychotherapy and Counselling , Regent’s College, London and I am a Member of their professional body.
I am registered with UKCP and BACP, the UK’s two principle bodies for the regulation of psychotherapy and counselling. I abide by their codes of practice.
I have 20 years experience of coaching and mentoring in a business and professional environment.
Professional background.
In addition to my private practice, I have worked as a psychotherapist in the NHS and as a counsellor in other institutional settings, including a young persons counselling service.
Personal background.
I have deliberately chosen not to say anything about my personal life.
This may seem a little strange to someone new to psychotherapy or counselling.
There is a contradiction in it: choosing a counsellor or psychotherapist can feel difficult and it is easy to see how knowing more about the therapist may seem important in finding someone you can feel comfortable with.
However, how I work assumes that an important role of a counsellor or psychotherapist is to mirror the client's way of seeing the world, through the relationship between them. Therefore, the more the therapist is in the picture the less easy it is for the client to see themselves.
Reputable training and appropriate registration give reassurance about a psychotherapist or counsellor but by far the best way to find out whether a particular therapist will suit you is to meet them and see how it feels.
Continued professional development.
I see continued personal and professional development as central to maintaining and enhancing my practice.
The main ongoing components of this development are:
regular one-to-one supervision
frequent peergroup supervision
psychotherapy reading group
I also attend seminars and training courses aimed at broadening my awareness and skills.
