SERVICES

Welcome to Yogaco

My Name is Keith Grant, I am a Yoga teacher and Stress Management trainer working in Bournemouth, Dorset.

A little background on myself and my training and experience:

I began my Yoga practice in Scotland in 1987 with Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, studying under Guru Sangat Singh, Shiv Charan Singh and Guru Dharam Singh.

Circumstances led to my being encouraged to begin teaching within two years. Interests in movement and meditation led to experimentation with Osho’s dance meditations, and a short training in the principles of Viniyoga helped in integrating these into my teaching style.

While studying and performing in a variety of dance styles, I underwent training with VTOL Dance Co., Russel Maliphant, Kirsty Simson, Scott Clark, Angus Balbirnie, Motionhouse and Stephen Petronio among others.

Yoga was used to inform my movement and choreographic vocabulary during this time, and in a long period of study in various martial arts from Shotokan and Wadoryu Karate Lao Gar Kung-Fu and Kung-Fu Toa to Capoeira and T’ai Ch’I. Especially in studying Aikiki Aikido under Kanetsuka Sensei, and Sensei William Smith, Yoga proved invaluable in a supplementary and rehabilitative capacity.

In a parallel career in Social Services I often worked with Yoga to improve the quality of life of client groups which included children and young people, adults with physical and mental health problems, and those with learning difficulties.

Recent years has seen my Yoga practice strongly influenced by the approaches to Yoga of teachers such as Erich Shiffmann, and by Ashtanga (vinyasa) Yoga as taught by Sri Pattabhi Jois.

Studying with David Swenson, Edward Clark, Sharat Rangaswami, Godfrey Devereaux, Mike Nevitt and others has formed a strong foundation to my understanding of the subject.

In a brief return to performing in 1999, I worked on a video performance project with the internationally acclaimed Tripsichore Yoga Theatre Company.

As well as certification in teaching Yoga I am also in practice as a Stress Management Trainer/Consultant, and have attained a Diploma in Yoga Therapy.

Having lived and worked in London for 8 years teaching Yoga classes, private lessons, and workshops across a number of London boroughs with clients including amateur and professional athletes, performers, colleges, universities, health clubs, and local authority departments.

Since relocating to Bournemouth on the South coast in 2003, I continue to develop my own brand of Power Yoga which reflects the wide variety of influences upon my practice over two decades.

My teaching method is based on my personal practice, and feedback from my clients.

In recent years I have led successful Yoga holidays in Turkey which I plan to build upon in coming years.

I am very happy to have been accepted in 2007 onto the Yoga Register of the Independant Yoga Network.

Yoga

Yoga is the original stress management and personal development system.

Developed over 5,000 years ago Yoga brings balance to all the systems of the body, promoting physical and mental health and allowing the individual to achieve their full potential.

This is accomplished through a practice combining full rhythmic breathing with fluid movements linking powerful postures.

Yoga has proven successful in the treatment and relief of symptoms for many conditions including:

sports injuries, arthritis, rheumatism, insomnia, muscular sprains, immunodeficiency, back pain, headaches, migraines, lack of concentration, poor memory, emotional imbalance, depression,
anxiety, weight problems, eating disorders, addictions, poor balance, lack of coordination, digestive problems.

Power Yoga/ Vinyasa Yoga/ Dynamic Yoga/ Hatha flow Yoga:

All of the above names are relevant to today's contemporary approach to the traditional Yoga discipline promoting physical and mental health, and personal and spiritual development.

Personal training is the original method of passing on knowledge throughout Yoga's long history prior to reaching the western world in the 20th Century. This approach allows the training to be tailored to the needs and desires of the individual, developing a personalized and progressive approach to help you to develop your Yoga practice in directions which are relevant to you.
