About Us
Herbal mother is a new innovation and concept designed by myself, Ann Walker, a practising midwife with over 20 years experience and a mother with over 10 years experience! Repeatedly over the years I have found that many women want to avoid medications and drugs during their pregnancies and often have to suffer minor disorders with no relief. As a daughter of a pharmacist, whose preferred methods of healing were homeopathy and herbs, I decided to address this issue and study Herbal Medicine. I am proud to have been awarded a Diploma with Distinction from the Institute of Natural Healing.
Studying Herbal Medicine has been a revelation and I feel a transformation in the air, with women reaching out to Nature for some of the wonderful ancient remedies it has to offer. Indeed, a recent study on Herbal medicine use during pregnancy in Australia found the use of herbal supplements relatively high during pregnancy, something I know to be mirrored in this country. It found rather worryingly though that many women were taking herbal medications with very little knowledge or evidence of potential benefits or harm. Pregnancy care providers, i.e., midwives, also had very little understanding or knowledge either, something I know from experience sadly to be true.
My intention with the Herbal Mother website is to give you some basic information about the safe use of herbs for fertility, in pregnancy and the menopause and to recommend that you consult a specialised herbalist if in any doubt. I offer genuine organic products for purchase – please take a look. Many are especially formulated to ease the discomforts of pregnancy, prepare for an easier birth and encourage healing in the post natal period. In addition, I offer remedies to aid conception and to ease the symptoms of the menopause, thus ensuring all aspects of the female reproductive cycle are covered.
