About Kate Fun MSTAT

I am a fully-qualified teacher of the Alexander Technique and a member of STAT. I am also an experienced singer and have also been teaching voice and piano for the past ten years. I hold monthly introductory workshops on the Alexander Technique. I am particularly interested in the application of the Technique to musicians and singers.

The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) was founded in the UK in 1958. Teaching members (MSTAT) are certified to teach the Technique after successfully completing a three-year, full- time course approved by the Society and adhere to the Society's published code of Professional Conduct and hold professional indemnity insurance.

Learning the Alexander Technique

Lessons in the Alexander Technique will teach you how to prevent the harmful patterns of tension which interfere with your natural poise and well-being. Most of us have accumulated such habits without realising it and often it is not until we start experiencing the unpleasant side effects (e.g. backache, RSI, anxiety, tension headaches) that we notice anything is wrong. Taking pain killers, having a massage or osteopathy may give temporary relief but rarely addresses the root cause of the problem.

Using simple, everyday activities like sitting, standing and walking you will learn how to use your thinking to help you move in a more efficient, less stressful way. In time you will be able to apply the Technique to more demanding activities such as sport, playing a musical instrument, or public speaking.

A good craftsman always respects his tools. Our 'self' is the tool that we bring to everything we do in life and obviously the better we use this tool, the better we can function at all levels: emotionally, physically and mentally.
