The Holistic Approach
SERVICES
Welcome to Body Breath Mind
The Holistic Approach - the word "Holistic" is derived from the Greek "holos", which gives us both "holy" & "whole" in modern English. It also has connections with the Anglo-Saxon word "hael" from which our words "healthy" & "hale" (hale & hearty) are descended. Holistic means treating the whole person - not just the presenting condition but all conditions that may or may not appear. It means looking at everything about the person, their job, their home life, diet, exercise regime, sleep pattern as well as their general health and medical background.
Complementary Therapies aim to keep people in a balanced state, therefore helping to prevent the onset of disease or illness. This balance is called "Homeostasis". Allopathic medicine (our GP healthcare team) certainly does play an important role in treating us for disease and illness, however, often they only treat the condition once it has become apparent and is causing distress. Complementary Therapies whilst also treating the condition, aim to treat the person 'between conditions', when they are well in order to maintain health and homeostasis at all times.
Hands have been used throughout history to give comfort and healing to one another. Touching is contact, warmth, reassurance that we are not alone, affirmation of our sense of being and self-worth. This simple way of communicating is something that we all do naturally every day of our lives. The intent that goes with touch makes all the difference to its effectiveness. When we lay our hands on another person with compassion and good will, many subtle changes takes place. Gently holding and stroking, touching given with tenderness and care, cause transformation both physically and psychologically. Touch can make us feel valued, peaceful and more aware of our whole body and being. The minute we place our hands on another person, we begin to treat both body and mind.
