All classes are choreographed for each individual, the Pilates method applies to all levels of strength and fitness.
Pilates is often referred to as remedial gymnastics and physiotherapists and doctors frequently prescribe Pilates for injury rehabilitation.
What are the origins of Pilates?
Pilates is a system of exercises designed at balancing the anatomy which was developed in America in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates, a circus performer and bodybuilder.
Unlike weight training, the movements are fluid rather than jerky, stretching muscles out to create sleekness rather than bulk.
His method was so effective that it attracted famous Americans from the world of ballet, such as George Balanchine and Martha Graham.
The aim of these exercises is to stretch and balance the body, giving adherence to strong body awareness.
