Physiotherapy with Julia Edwards
Physiotherapists are experts in human movement. Physiotherapists use their understanding of how your muscles, bones, joints and nerves move to help treat pain and injury. Physiotherapy helps your muscles and joints to work to their full potential in order to reduce pain and stiffness.
Following a comprehensive assessment of your problem you will receive an explanation and advice on your condition. A treatment program will then be discussed and planned with you. Treatment methods are aimed at restoring normal, painfree movement and may include: exercise, mobilisations of the joints and soft tissues and electrotherapy. Advice will be given on preventing the problem recurring.

Pilates
Pilates is a mind body exercise technique originally devised by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s. The APPI took the traditional Pilates exercises and modified them to make them safe for back and pelvic stability training. Pilates focuses on the deep postural muscles promoting core stability. Good core stability is important for maintaining good posture.
Pilates works to rebalance the body: strengthening the weak muscles and relaxing and lengthening the tight muscles.
Initially you work to carefully isolate the postural muscles with gentle controlled movements. As you progress you add in other muscle groups to challenge your control and build up your strength and stamina.
Pilates can be performed at different levels allowing those recovering from injury or illness to start to exercise but also providing a challenging workout for with a high level of fitness.
Pilates involves relaxation, concentration and breathing control as you use flowing movements to exercise the body with an awareness of your alignment, helping to restore balance.
