Welcome to Nigel Kettle Osteopath
Osteopaths treat a wide range of patients and conditions, not just backs!
Osteopathy
Osteopathy is an established, recognised system of diagnosis and treatment that lays its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. It uses many diagnostic procedures used in conventional medical assessment and diagnosis. Its main strength however, lies in the unique way the patient is assessed from a mechanical, functional and postural standpoint and the manual methods of treatment applied to suit the needs of the individual patient.
About Nigel Kettle
Osteopaths use their hands to investigate the underlying causes of pain and to carry out treatment using a variety of gentle manual techniques to ease pain, reduce swelling and improving mobility. These may include muscle and connective tissue stretching, rhythmic joint movements and manipulation which may result in an audible ‘click’ which is simply the sound of gas bubbles popping in the fluid of the joints. Gentle releasing techniques are also used, particularly when treating children or elderly patients.
Osteopathy is a safe, effective, integrated approach to the treatment of a wide variety of conditions, including all of the following;
Back and neck pain - Muscle aches & joint pain - Trapped nerves
Headache & migraine - Arthritis & mobility problems - Posture-related conditions
Whiplash injuries - Work-related conditions & RSI - Sports & dance injuries
Ankle, foot, hip and knee problems - Shoulder injuries
About Nigel Kettle
Born in 1962, Nigel initially trained as a 'complementary health practitioner'. achieving his diploma in 1990. He subsequently specialised in sports massage and other remedial therapies, working alongside osteopaths in their practices. This exposure to hands-on osteopathy, seeing its scope and effectiveness in the treatment of a wide variety of musculoskeletal and other conditions inspired him to train as an osteopath.
Osteopath training is demanding and lengthy, and a recognised qualification is only available from osteopathic educational institutions accredited by the General Osteopathic Council. In 1999, after studying for four years full-time at the British School of Osteopathy - the country's oldest osteopathic school - Nigel qualified as a registered osteopath with a 2.1 Bachelor of Science Honours degree.
In addition to having his own clinic in Mayfield, East Sussex, he works in private practices in Reigate, Kent and Epsom. Also a teacher, he is currently principle lecturer in Osteopathic Technique at Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine, a recognised qualification (RQ) osteopathic degree course based in North East Surrey College in Ewell.
Although interested in all aspects of osteopathic practice he works primarily as a 'hands-on' or structural osteopath and over the years has gained a wealth of experience in the treatment of a wide variety of conditions and age groups.
