SERVICES
Welcome to Kids Physio
KidsPhysio provides specialist domiciliary private paediatric physiotherapy for children within a 20-mile radius of Milton Keynes and a 20-mile radius of Hitchin.
Services include:
Physiotherapy treatment
After the initial assessment, we will recommend the frequency of physiotherapy treatment we feel your child needs. However, it is entirely up to you how often we see your child.
- Some parents are happy with advice on activities and exercises, and monthly or 6-weekly physiotherapy appointments to monitor progress and update the physiotherapy programme.
- Some children are seen weekly or fortnightly. Where possible, appointments will be made at the same time and day, so you and your child can fit the physiotherapy appointments into your routine.
- Blocks of physiotherapy treatment have been shown to be very effective, for example 2 sessions each week for 4 to 6 weeks, followed by a review in one month.
- We see some children only during the school holidays, for example if they are very late home from school or attend a boarding school or if it fits better into a family's routine.
Physiotherapy assessment
Sometimes ‘one-off' assessments are required, for example:
- Assessment to check your child's posture or gait, like an ‘MOT' for your child!
- Reports for Statements of Special Educational Needs
- Reports for tribunals
- Reports for access into college or university
- Expert witness reports for legal cases
What to expect
Your child's first physiotherapy appointment with KidsPhysio will involve a thorough examination to establish the nature of the child's difficulties and appropriate physiotherapy management.
Initially, we will ask you various questions. You may be asked about your child's development, any medication they may be taking, how they are managing at school, their abilities and difficulties, any pain there are suffering from. Your child will be involved as much as possible in these discussions.
Your child will need to be appropriately undressed for the physical examination. This is important in order to check ranges of movements and see how your child moves. For example, the physiotherapist will assess whether some muscles are more active than others and if your child has any postural problems either present or likely to develop.
Once the physiotherapist has established the main problems and causes, they will discuss this with you and establish a plan for your child's treatment. This will include what we can do to help you and what you and your child can do. We will also try to give you an idea of how often your child will require treatment and what progress we would expect to be made.
You will always have the opportunity to discuss any concerns or questions you may have.
Consent
You (and your child, depending on their age and understanding) will be asked to sign an agreement form prior to the initial assessment, and will be asked for consent throughout your child's treatment. It is important that you ask if you understand your child's physiotherapy treatment when you give consent.
It is very important that you understand your child's physiotherapy management. If at any time you have any questions please ask.
