What is nutritional therapy?

‘Leave your drugs in the chemist's pot if you can heal the patient with food.’ - Hippocrates

The food we eat has an enormous impact on our health. Nutritional Therapy is an evidence based system of healing which follows the principle that the right food can provide us with the nutrients needed to maintain or restore a state of health. It takes a holistic approach and aims to restore health through balancing body systems, allowing the body to heal and nourish itself with foods that are beneficial and avoid foods which are not. Nutritional Therapy is useful in treating chronic conditions which may not be responding well to conventional medicine approaches. It looks to rectify the underlying cause of illness rather than simply treating the symptoms.

Consultations

Following an initial chat to find out if Nutritional Therapy is appropriate for you, Jacqui will ask you to fill in a comprehensive Health Check Questionnaire which should be completed and returned prior to your initial appointment.

An initial appointment will then take place which lasts approximately 1.5 – 2 hours. A full health history is taken and symptoms and current diet discussed. During the appointment Jacqui will explain her rationale and draw up revised diet plans with you. A written report will then be sent to you with full explanations, copies of the diet plans, suggested supplements and if necessary, laboratory test requests and explanations.

Follow up appointments take place approx 4 – 6 weeks after the initial appointment, depending on the patients individual requirements. This appointment lasts between 45 minutes – 1 hour in which progress made and changes to symptoms are discussed and additions or alterations to the Nutritional Therapy programme put in place.

The number of follow up appointments required will depend on the individual patient’s needs and the condition being helped. Please feel free to discuss this in your initial telephone conversation.

About Jacqui

Jacqui has always been interested in food and has a love of cooking. She initially qualified as a chef before spending 15 years in television production.

Following the birth of her second child, Jacqui developed Fibromyalgia and spent 5 years trying many conventional and alternative approaches to find a way of managing her condition. Nutritional Therapy was the treatment which enabled Jacqui to tackle her Fibromyalgia and lead a normal life. She was so impressed with the results that she decided to train as a Nutritional Therapist, completing a BSc (Hons) in Nutritional Therapy at Middlesex University. Her research thesis focused on ‘Fibromyalgia and Food’ investigating the link between foods consumed and Fibromyalgia symptoms. She has spoken at Fibromyalgia Support Group meetings and has written extensively on the subject.

Although Jacqui has a personal interest in Fibromyalgia, she is qualified for general practice and has had much success in working with patients who suffer from Diabetes, IBS, Asthma, PMS, Menstrual Migraines, Food allergies, Hair loss and Adrenal Fatigue to name but a few. She currently runs a private practice in the village of Bentley near Farnham in Surrey, only 35 miles from the centre of London.

Jacqui is a full member of the British Association of Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). She is also a qualified Dietary Analyst and NLP coach.

Jacqui also has a strong corporate background having spent the last 5 years of her television career as a Production Executive for one of the UKs largest independent production companies. She therefore has a sound understanding of corporate structure and runs a corporate service in which she provides Nutritional Therapy for employees and executives to enable them to manage their stress, stay healthy and prevent illness and therefore absence (please call for further details).
