Here at AFTERBABY we offer independent private midwifery care with fully insured, Registered Midwives in the London and Kent areas. Our care is tailored to suit your needs helping to make your pregnancy and the first few weeks with your baby as special as they should be, knowing you have contact and support from a midwife when you need it.
At AFTERBABY, we are happy to see you as many times as you wish during your pregnancy within the comfort and privacy of your own home. Please visit our Antenatal page for further details.
We know that giving birth is at the forefront of your mind but have you thought about how much care and support you will need during the first few weeks after birth, particularly with feeding and establishing a routine. AFTERBABY also offers a variety of flexible postnatal packages.
Please contact us to arrange an initial consultation which is free and without obligation.
Antenatal Care
At your initial booking we will discuss with you your medical history and ask for details about any previous pregnancies. This will enable us to establish whether any additional medical care is required during your pregnancy.
Each Antenatal check will consist of blood pressure check, urinalysis and fetal heart monitoring using an ultrasound doppler. We will measure your fundal height to check that baby is growing at the appropriate rate, palpate your abdomen (from approx. 28 weeks we will be able to tell you what position your baby is lying in your uterus). We will answer any questions you may have and ask you the appropriate questions to reassure us that your pregnancy is progressing normally. If at any of your Antenatal checks we are concerned in any way regarding either yours or your baby's health, we will telephone the hospital you are booked with for the delivery of your baby and arrange for you to be seen by an Obstetrician the same day.
Postnatal Care
As your private Midwife we will support you and your family offering:
YOU a full postnatal check each time we see you to ensure that your body is recovering physically and emotionally following the birth attaining optimum health status; support in your chosen method of feeding; and all aspects of baby care.
YOUR BABY a full baby check each session, including monitoring for jaundice and the heel prick test (a routine nationwide screening test offered to all babies in the UK), ensuring that your baby is happy, healthy and thriving including advice for your baby's safety and guidance regarding cot death prevention.
Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is the best start you can give your baby, however, it can also be one of the most stressful beginnings to life with your newborn.
Breastfeeding is natural but the majority of babies need to learn how to breastfeed. The first few days can be hard work, as you are both learning positioning, latching on and how to achieve effective feeding to trigger your breast milk to flow.
We will give you help and advice with breastfeeding, if needed, at any of our postnatal visits, however, as an alternative to our full postnatal care package we offer a purely breastfeeding support only service.
