Welcome to Brecon Chiropractic Centre
Chiropractic is taken from the Greek language and literally means “ by hand”.
It is a very effective form of manual treatment suitable for most mechanical muscular and joint complaints including backache, peripheral joint pain, neck pain and some headaches.
The aim of the Chiropractors at Brecon Chiropractic Clinic is to provide a complimentary or an alternative approach to conventional medicine for many muscular, bone and joint complaints, especially those concerning your back and neck.
Chiropractic is a government-regulated profession. This means that only practitioners registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) are lawfully permitted to practice in Britain using the title Chiropractor. The GCC ensures all chiropractors have a high level of education and hold the correct insurances to practice. The GCC also oversees the continual professional development of each individual chiropractor's post qualification and registration. The chiropractors at Brecon Chiropractic Centre are registered with both the GCC and the British Chiropractic Association.
The First Consultation
The First Consultation will take approximately 1-1½ hours, depending on the complexity of your case and the nature of your complaint.
A detailed medical history will be taken and a number of questions asked about previous illnesses, accidents and health history of family members. Many of these questions may seem irrelevant, however, they frequently provide crucial insights into your complaint. The more accurate you can be, particularly about any medication you are currently taking or any previous conditions you have suffered, the better the treatment programme can be tailored to meet your specific needs.
Once the history is completed, you will then be asked to partially undress and a gown will be provided so that a PHYSICAL EXAMINATION can then be undertaken. This may include procedures that you may have already experienced at your GP’s surgery, such as taking your blood pressure and listening to your chest.
A series of further tests, designed to check movement and structures of the body, will then be carried out to provide the chiropractor with the necessary information about your complaint.
During the examination, please feel free to ask questions as they occur to you, no matter how irrelevant or silly you may feel they are.
Subsequent Visits
Subsequent visits will involve a brief review of your progress, repetition of some of the tests and treatment.
Further Tests
If it is deemed necessary, you may be asked to have an x-ray or referred back to your GP. This is only requested in cases where your history or symptoms indicate the need to do so. In some cases it may be necessary to test a small sample of your urine, or request your GP to take a blood sample in order to confirm or eliminate certain conditions.
Who will you see?
Who you see, will depend on where and which day of the week your appointment is booked.
Treatment
The exact nature of your treatment will be dependant on your specific needs. It may include chiropractic adjustments, specific types of massage, dry needling, and often a programme of stretches and exercises, all of which will only be carried out with patient consent.
Precise forces applied to stiff joints (adjustments), restore the correct motion. In time the nervous system responds leading to the restoration of function and health. Chiropractic care can therefore help to restore and maintain health.
Chiropractic treatment is a partnership between chiropractor and patient, and it is therefore important that any home exercise programmes are followed. This will speed your recovery, provide the opportunity for self-help and help prevent recurrence of the problem in the long term.
