Welcome to Four Flowers Acupuncture
What is Four Flowers?
The name Four Flowers derives itself from a book written in the 13th Century; ‘The Classic of Supplementing Life with Acupuncture and Moxibustion’, and is the name given to two acupuncture points located on the back when used in conjunction to treat a variety of ailments, such as blood conditions (e.g. anaemia), low grade fever, exhaustion and weakness. To this day Four Flowers is still used by acupuncturist throughout the world.
About Lucinda
Lucinda graduated from the University of Westminster with a BSc (Hons) in Traditional Chinese Medicine: Acupuncture in 2008. After graduating she went to further her studies at Nanjing’s University of Chinese Medicine in China. Here she worked in a variety of hospitals, and was fortunate enough to observe and assist Doctor Tao Kun, a greatly respected and renowned acupuncturist throughout China for his moxibustion (a heating herb) techniques. Since returning from China, Lucinda has been practicing in several holistic clinics in London; Waterloo Body Station and Urban Bliss, as well as volunteering with Hoxton Health Group at St.Leonards in Hackney, and the NHS Gateway Clinic in Stockwell.
Qualified in Swedish, Thai and Tuina massage, Lucinda likes to incorporate massage into her treatments as a method of physical and mental relaxation prior to the acupuncture. She will also use cupping, moxibustion (a warming herb technique) and electro-acupuncture if appropriate for the patient’s condition.
Lucinda not only focuses on diagnosing and treating the patient’s presenting problem, but also likes to look closely at diet, lifestyle and emotional well-being to ensure her treatment and advice is aimed at restoring the body’s equilibrium and promoting self-healing.
Our Services
Lucinda treats her patients with Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture, which has been used for over 3000 years in China.
During your first consultation Lucinda will ask detailed questions about your presenting condition, general health, lifestyle and family history. Following this, fine acupuncture needles will be inserted into selected acupuncture points in the body and left for around 20 minutes. Other techniques such as massage, moxibustion, electro-acupuncture and cupping maybe used if appropriate for your condition.
Moxibustion, also known as Moxa is a warming technique, in which a stick or cone of burning mugwort herb (Artemesia vulgaris) is placed over or on a particular region or acupuncture point on the body. Its purpose is to stimulate circulation and induce a smoother flow of Blood and Qi. It is mainly used against cold and dampness in the body and can serve to turn breech babies.
Cupping - a treatment in which evacuated glass cups are applied to acupuncture points or regions of the body that are affected by pain, so that the skin and superficial muscle layer is drawn into and held in the cup. In some cases, the cup may be moved while the suction of skin is active, which is known as ‘Sliding Cupping’. This is a very relaxing form of treatment that is similar to a deep tissue massage.
Electro-acupuncture - a procedure in which pulses of weak electrical current are sent through acupuncture needles into acupuncture points in the skin. It is effectively used as surgical anesthesia, as a means of reducing chronic pain and muscle spasms, and as a treatment for neurological (nerve) disorders.
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture - known as the ‘natural face-lift’ this helps to maintain youthful looking facial skin, naturally, rather than using Botox or cosmetic surgery.
Facial Rejuvenation involves the insertion of very fine needles into wrinkles and frown lines. This stimules the cells to lay down new collagen fibres under wrinkles, thereby filling them in. The needles also relax muscles, which combats sagging in facial areas. After a few sessions, eyes brighten, skin feels firmer, lips become plumper and blemishes vanish. Overall, it is a rejuvenation and revitalisation process designed to help the whole body look and feel younger.
