I am a qualified registered homeopath practising in the Portsmouth and Southsea area. I hold weekly clinics at The Portsmouth Homeopathic Practice and offer home visits to the housebound or to those who are too unwell to travel. What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that has been practised worldwide for almost 250 years. It is based on clear scientific principles and is an effective form of treatment for people suffering from a wide range of physical, mental and emotional conditions.
Homeopathic medicine offers a safe and natural alternative for those who are sensitive to conventional medicine or who are concerned about the potential side effects of orthodox treatments. It can be used to treat people of all ages - from the new born, to pregnant women and the very old. Homeopathy is wonderfully versatile and can be used on its own or alongside conventional treatments.
How it works
Homeopathy is a holistic therapy that works by stimulating the body's natural ability to heal itself. From this holistic perspective symptoms of ill health are seen as expressions of disharmony within the body as it attempts to correct an underlying balance. Rather than suppress these symptoms, homeopathy aims to resolve the underlying cause by treating the whole person rather than just the disease.
One of the main principles of homeopathy is to treat "like with like", which means that any substance that can cause disease symptoms in a healthy person can also cure those same type of symptoms in a sick person. For instance the sting of bee can cause an extreme reaction in some people yet the remedy Apis, made from the honey bee, is one of a few remedies that is effective for dealing with allergic reactions.
Homeopathic medicine or remedies are mainly made from natural occurring substances such as plants, herbs and minerals. Each substance has been progressively diluted and shaken to create a potent substance capable of stimulating the healing energy of the body. The task of the homeopath is to carefully observe the way a person expresses their symptoms, in order to find a remedy that is most similar to their overall symptom picture.
