SERVICES

Welcome to Marshall arts Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a complete system of medicine that has been practised in Asia for thousands of years.
Chinese medicine believes the health of the body is dependent on the harmonious flow of energy (Qi) around the body. Health is achieved when a balanced and smooth flow is maintained.

Acupuncture corrects any imbalance by inserting fine needles into specific points on the channel system, re-establishing correct flow and allowing the body to heal itself.

What happens in a session?

During the first consultation a full case history will be taken. The tongue will be looked at and the pulses on each wrist felt. Both give important information about the state of the bodies energy. Other points on the body may be palpated and all of this information collated to form a diagnosis of the imbalance present within the whole body.

Treatment usually consists of fine needles being inserted into different points and left for around 20 minutes. All the needles are sterile and single use and are extremely fine, almost hairlike in quality. Needle sensation is often described as a dull ache or tingle and not unpleasant.

Other techniques such as Massage, cupping, (suction) moxa, (heat) or electro (passing current between two needles) may also be used. Dietary and lifestyle advice, or exercises may be given to support treatment.

The length of treatment needed generally depends on how long the condition has been present for. Some conditions improve significantly during the first few treatments while others improve slower over a longer course of treatment. Your prognosis will be talked about during your consultation and what options are available to you.

Acupuncture for Babies & Children

Because some children don`t like the idea of needles, or are unable to stay still, the Japanese developed a whole range of techniques and tools for use on children called Shonishin. These are safe, effective and non invasive. Primarily used is a combination of tapping and rubbing points and areas of the body with small metal tools, and children find this generally pleasant and acceptable. One or two needles can be used but are generally just inserted and withdrawn.
