SERVICES

Welcome to Acupuncture in Surrey
Acupuncture is the oldest mode of medical treatment known to Man, from its origins 5000 years ago it continues to offer an approach that is still viable in modern society.

In very simple terms, it helps the body to help itself, by restoring the healing mechanisms inherent in us with the use of fine needles inserted into specific points on the body. The treatment is not geared towards 'curing' or 'healing' illness or disease but enables you to resolve any imbalances; this gives it a wide scope in the conditions that it can help with and beyond that it helps people to achieve optimal health.

Treatments
The first consultation and treatment session takes approximately 60 minutes, subsequent sessions take approximately 45 minutes. A full medical case history is taken (presenting complaint/s, past illnesses, family medical history, medication.), this is followed by a Chinese body diagnosis (looking for external signs of internal pathology), tongue and pulse diagnosis.

Once all the information has been collected from questions and observations, acupuncture points will be chosen to bring the body back to its own natural state. Everyone is unique and the acupuncture point selection takes this into account, the main objective is to give a holistic treatment (taking care of all of you rather than one particular part). The acupuncture needles are left in for approximately 20 minutes and then removed, these are usually used by themselves but sometimes a herb call Moxa maybe used in conjunction.

Acupuncture needles - are fine filiform needles, sterile and disposable conforming to British Standards.

Moxa - a herb used to warm an acupuncture needle or used directly on the skin to warm an acupuncture point. Common name: Mugwort; Latin name: artemisia vulgaris.

Treatment Overview

Classical Chinese medicine is unique in that it has its own system of diagnosis, what is notes is the disharmony of energetic flow throughout the body and the corresponding symptoms that present in an individual. So in practical terms what acupuncture will do is redress this disharmony thus easing of symptoms in the first instance and then treatment is focused on strengthening to reduce the likelihood of a re-occurrence.

What this means for your condition is that you are treated as an individual and the method of getting you back to optimum health is unique to your circumstances.

Fertility and Acupuncture in Surrey

My goal is always to help people conceive without IVF but where it is necessary the marriage of these two systems provides a very positive result. There are many causes of infertility and just as many options to help with fertility.

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is a ground-breaking treatment that assists nature in bringing together the egg and the sperm to facilitate conception.

Acupuncture can help to assist nature to do what nature does best; make babies. Classical acupuncture is different to other form in that there are no formulas or set protocols, instead each treatment is tailored to your particular needs while you go through IVF. By facilitating balance and harmony in your energy, all of the different organs in your body are working to optimum and in good communication with each other together to ensure the environment is right to create new life.

By combining acupuncture treatment with IVF, success rates seem to dramatically improve, not only in creating the most ideal conditions for conception, but also giving the highest possible chance of a problem-free pregnancy.

I would recommend you start having acupuncture treatments around 3 months prior to starting an IVF protocol, but where this is not possible treatment can still have a significant effect at any time.
When the body is strong and in harmony it is ready to sustain a pregnancy.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic, or, Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture is a painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process, it is sometimes referred as an Acupuncture Facelift, however, it is more than a cosmetic procedure. It is a rejuvenation and revitalization process designed to help the whole body look and feel younger.

The Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture treatment is based on the principles of Oriental Medicine and involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into particular areas of the face, ears, neck, hands, trunk, and legs along energy. Specific points are chosen to manipulate the movement of energy in the body according to the individual's needs. Thousands of years ago the Chinese discovered that many meridians either begin or end on the face while some have internal branches that go to the face. Thus, practitioners of Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture know how to specifically affect the face while simultaneously treating the underlying factors that contribute to the aging process.

Acupuncture and Stress

We all experience stress at one time or another it is a healthy response to events in our lives that may feel beyond our control. In good health where the stress is short-lived, we are usually able to recover without impact to our overall health but when the stress is extreme, or prolonged, our emotional health and ultimately, our physical health begin to suffer.

We are hardwired to help us react to stressful events. At the first sign of a threat, whether real or perceived, our sympathetic nervous system kicks responds with a “fight or flight” response. This in turn leads to a cascade of events that affects all our vital systems, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, immune and hormonal.

Unfortunately, the “fight or flight” response, which worked well in the days of cavemen, does not serve us as well to the “threats” of modern society. Commonly, the stress in our lives tends to be over a longer term, resulting in a constant state of “fight or flight”, or stress. With time, the constant state of stress takes has a significant impact on the physical body. Cortisol, the body’s stress hormone elevates, blood pressure increases, and our immune function is suppressed, these symptoms can worsen and develop into anxiety, depression, fatigue, insomnia, digestive problems, and tension headaches (to name a few). The extra stress hormones over an extended period of time may wear out the body's reserves.

Acupuncture and Sports Injury

An increasing number of professional, top amateur and club athletes acupuncture for the treatment of injuries and to help optimize their conditioning.

Sprain and strain of the joint and surrounded tissue are one of the most common sports related injuries. Besides pain, the typical inflammatory response may include swelling of the injured area, redness or purple skin discoloration, and reduced range of motion of the joint. In addition to conventional R.I.C.E (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) treatment, many athletes have found acupuncture treatment to be very helpful in suppressing inflammation and swelling fast.

Prolonged inflammation can cause scar tissue formation and may prevent recovery of proper joint mobility. Once the acute inflammation and swelling has been reduced substantially, the treatment will focus on strengthening and suppleness . Returning to exercise too soon after an injury can lead to repeated injuries of the damaged tissue.

Whatever your sport get back to enjoying it if you are wondering how acupuncture treatment can specifically help your acute or chronic sports injury, contact me today.

Acupuncture and Headaches

Nearly everyone will suffer a headache at some point, one of the most common physical complaints that warrant people to seek medical assistance. Whilst most headaches are not necessarily symptomatic of another condition they can cause great distress. Mostly headaches may result from any number of factors, including tension; muscle contraction; vascular problems; withdrawal from certain medications; abscesses; or physical injury.

Acupuncture and Paediatrics

Who better to reap the benefits of preventative medicine then those most pure - children.

Children seem to gain large benefits from preventative medicine and when it comes to their reaction to acupuncture, it's no different. Chinese Medicine has been treating children for centuries, and as it turns out

Paediatrics is one of the medicines best specialties (since the Song Dynasty - 960-1279).
Our children are so precious to us and seeing them unwell is difficult as parents. Through the treatment of Acupuncture we can strengthen the child and decrease illness.
