Ahimsa Yoga is a Birmingham-based organisation, providing yoga for all abilities.
"In the light of the sun, in the light of the moon, and in the light of the stars there is no discrimination. The light within you has the power of discrimination. You can use that light to see the darkest corners of your inner chamber. For that you do not need outer guidance. The purpose of a guide, guru, or teacher is to introduce you to that light."

About us
Hi! I'm Jessie Blackledge.
I discovered yoga several years ago, and after just a few classes, noticed the massive beneficial effects it had on my physical and mental health.
I followed the yoga path, to see where it led, and never looked back!
I have now been practicing yoga for several years, and graduated with my Yoga Teacher Training (RYT 200) from Himalaya Yoga Valley Centre, working closely with Yogacharya Lalit Kumar and his team. I am accredited with Yoga Alliance UK (click on the logo to the left for a link to the Yoga Alliance UK website).
Ahimsa Yoga was set up in Birmingham, enabling me to bring all the wonderful yoga knowledge I have learnt to others. I hold classes around Birmingham, and am available for both group and individual classes.
My yoga classes are styled in Ashtanga and Hatha yoga. Ashtanga can often have a reputation as being strenuous and high-energy yoga. This is not always true, Ashtanga yoga is a traditional Indian yoga style, it uses movement synchronised with deep rhythmic breathing, working through a set sequence of therapeutic postures which can be adapted to all abilities. My classes vary in style and levels, but are usually open to all abilities.
My classes focus on the practice of asana (postures) with awareness to pranayama (breath) and bandhas (energy locks). Using these techniques and creating this inner focus, our physicality can become a meditation in motion.
I believe yoga is something that should be practiced by everyone. It has many different layers and aspects, and it is one of the greatest secrets to health and happiness.
