Our Facilities
Here at the Orchard Medical Centre we offer an up to date Osteopathic Clinic offering manipulation for many musculoskeletal problems, and now as an adjunct service, we also offer Acupuncture to complemend and assist Osteopathy in the healing process. Osteopathy is a fast and effective therapy. Treatments are inexpensive and most conditions can be treated in two or three treatments.
Our Osteopath Alexander Malkani has more than twenty five years of experience and has gained quite a reputation for his no nonsence approach to Osteopathy not only in Lanarkshire but throughout Scotland and beyond. Alexander qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in 1986. He then spent some time at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary observing orthopedic operations and after care and then spent time with Mr Durwood observing neurological conditions and treatment at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow. This gave him a unique insight into the different approaches to treating musculoskeletal problems and when to reffer patients for further procedures.
Osteopathy
Osteopaths employ a number of techneques in order to influence the body's innate healing system. These include; soft tissue, muscle work, joint articulation, and mobilisation/manipulation. The specific treatment will depend on the patients unique circumstances and problem. Manipulation has the effect of freeing up any adhesions and encouraging better movement it also has a secondary and very useful analgesic effect.
When you visit an Osteopath he will begin by taking a very detailed case history noteing any past aches and pains, possible causes of your compliant, any conditions you are suffering from, any
devices you have had fitted, how long you have had the current problem, what are the aggravating factors and what helps. This all helps to form a full picture of your problem and thus treat it effectively and also give you postural advice so that the problem does not return in the future.
There are a huge number of variations between individual practitioners on what they focus on and how they apply treatment. Each osteopath is an individual with his or her own unique style of practice, and it is imp[ortant for a patient to find a practice that fits his or her unique needs.
