Welcome to Antonella Cavallone
Why the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a self-help method. As a teacher I will guide you to identify the harmful tensions and stresses within your body and help you to find ways of correcting them. As well as helping in preventing pain, the technique can improve the way you think about and approach all physical movement. You learn to recognise the pain and discomfort caused by constantly putting undue strain on some parts of your body.
Over the years, through work and lifestyles, we tend to develop tense habits of movement that cause back and shoulder aches, stiff necks, headaches, sore knees and other ailments that can affects our quality of life.
The Alexander Technique teaches you to undo the years of tension and strain accumulated through poor physical use. It helps you change harmful habits for improved co-ordination and increased energy.
How the Alexander Technique can help?
Pain relief through postural improvement
Many people come to the Alexander Technique for relief of pain. Pain is often due to mechanically incorrect movements, excess tension and poor posture. You may be suffering from back pain, sciatica, headache, RSI, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, etc, or simply feel stiff and out -of- sorts.
The Alexander Technique enables you to identify and prevent harmful postural habits and relieve tension and pain. The technique has been included in the May 2009 NICE guidelines for low back pain following the positive results from the 2008 clinical trial funded by the Medical Research Council and the NHS. (days of pain were reduced from 21 to 3 in a month).
Dealing with stress
Perhaps you simply cannot 'let go'. Or else you may be constantly preoccupied and anxious, or you may be experiencing chronic headaches, respiratory problems, gastrointestinal dysfunction, hypertension, etc.
The Alexander Technique can help you be more alert with less strain, to breathe and speak more freely and establish an overall sense of calm and confidence. It helps us take control of our responses to situations.
Improved performance
The Alexander Technique brings attention to both the mental and physical aspects of performance. With increased awareness and clear perception you can learn to remove whatever is in the way of you achieving your full potential.
Pregnancy
The way the body changes during pregnancy can create discomfort. With the Alexander Technique, you can learn how to better use your body in everyday activities and how to respond to stress and pain through the releasing of tensions. As your body becomes more sensitive you learn to be more aware of changes and adapt to them more efficiently.

I trained at the STAT-accredited VictoriaTraining School for the Alexander Technique. As well as teaching private clients, I run group workshops and introductory presentations/lessons, including in Italy, at the Back Care Show at Olympia, and at the Marchmont Street community festival and at a local hospital.
I also teach at the Bloomsbury Alexander Centre, and I am a voluntary teacher at ArtsEd School of Performing Arts and at the CityLit College. I am a member of STAT and as such I have professional indemnity insurance, I adhere to the Society's code of professional practice and have current CRB status. I arrived in London from southern Italy in the early 1990s and completed a Bachelor of Arts in History of Art and Film at Birkbeck College, University of London. Originally from Puglia, a crossroads of history, I have a keen interest in the classical traditions of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. I enjoy gardening on my shared allotment, cooking Italian-style, walking in the countryside and enjoying the wealth of culture London has to offer.
Testimonials
I kept looking at my boss slumping in his high chair day after day and I thought 'I don't want to end up like that'. I am happy to have come across the Alexander Technique and to have discovered with your help, that I can improve my posture without straining.

I knew that while on stage I was finding difficult to engage with my audience if the part was particularly demanding. In my delivery I tended to focus on myself and what I was doing. The Alexander Technique has tought me how to connect with the audience, the environment, and myself all at the same time. Brilliant! Thank you.
