Catharine is a qualified Alexander Teacher who can help you learn to listen to your own body and find greater well-being. You can start to change long-term habits which may be leading to back and neck ache, joint problems, poor posture, headaches, stress, RSI, breathing problems, balance issues and much more.
SERVICES
Welcome to Catharine Gunningham - Alexander Technique in North London. Please Quote Natural Therapy Pages when you call
With the Alexander Technique, you learn to let go of ingrained and often unconsious patterns of tension so you can begin to function better and move with more ease and with better co-ordination.
I use light touch and verbal instruction to guide you to rediscover your natural balance and poise, starting with simple movements such as sitting, bending, walking and using your arms. As you become more aware, you will learn how to be more in balance and how to release unnecessary tension.
If you are living with a lot of stress, you will learn to let go of your unnecessary tension so you can feel more relaxed; if you sit long hours at a computer, you will learn how to sit more balancedly and how to use your arms with less effort; if you suffer from back pain or joint problems, you will find out how to release over-tight muscles and re-educate your system.
Sessions (called lessons because the Alexander Technique is a learning process) last 40-45 minutes and, as with learning anything new, I would recommend a series of regular lessons.
About Catharine Gunningham
I came to the Alexander Technique through recurring back and shoulder problems which had failed to respond, other than briefly, to therapies of various kinds. Working in an office, often at a computer, the pains increased.
With the Technique, I discovered just how much tension I carried with me in my everyday life and that it was how I was doing things which was leading to my problems. Increasingly as I had regular individual lessons, I felt better in myself – happier, calmer, and usually free of the nagging pains I’d had for many a year. So after 18 months of lessons, I was keen to take the Technique further and to learn to teach it to others. So I left my job and undertook the three–year full–time training at the London Centre for Alexander Technique and Training.
I work primarily in Stoke Newington in North East London and in Islington. But I also work at Uppingham School in Rutland, individually teaching Alexander Technique to 13-18 year olds.
I am a member of The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT).
