Acupuncture, Shiatsu and Qigong in Bristol.
My aim is to offer you a professional ‘Whole Person’ approach to supporting your health and well being.
SERVICES
Based on over 20 years of knowledge, extensive training and clinical experience in the field of Chinese Medicine, my endeavour is that you can come for a treatment feeling confident that your well being and safety are at heart. You will have time to be listened to carefully, respectfully and compassionately and also to ask questions if you are unsure of anything concerning your treatment.
Being a practitioner of acupuncture, shiatsu and qigong means that I can use one or a combination of these disciplines to offer a comprehensive and individual service that addresses your needs physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Acupuncture can be effective for a wide range of health problems and due to its increasing use alongside conventional medicine, there is a growing body of high quality research emerging.
The areas I have a particular interest in are Cancer Care and the various conditions that are symptomatic of stress including insomnia, back pain, migraines, IBS, anxiety and depression.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a system of medicine that has been used for thousands of years in China and parts of Asia. Increasing amounts of high-quality research and clinical trials are demonstrating its efficacy in successfully treating a wide range of physical and psychological complaints.
Traditional Acupuncturists understand there are channels of energy (Qi) running through the whole body that interconnect. When blockages occur in the channels illness can arise physically, mentally and emotionally. In an acupuncture treatment, certain points are stimulated, using very fine, single use, stainless steel needles. This promotes a balanced Qi flow throughout the network of channels, encouraging health to be restored.
As a result, patients often report that in addition to addressing their main complaint, becoming free from pain and illness, they also feel increased energy levels and a sense of feeling better in themselves. Acupuncture is now being used and acknowledged in the West as an effective treatment therapy for many modern health concerns and is increasingly being used to compliment conventional medicine or as a natural alternative to it.
Alex’s practice Integrates both Traditional Chinese Medical Acupuncture (TCM) and 5 Element Acupuncture. He aims to treat the Whole Person and not just the symptoms and to unlock the underlying patterns that cause symptoms to arise.
The first session includes an in-depth consultation where you will be listened to carefully and compassionately. I will ask about your current state of health and your medical history. I will also ask questions about your diet, digestion, sleep and emotional state. I will do a traditional diagnosis and physical examination as appropriate; everything you say is confidential.
If you would like to find out more about an acupuncture treatment and how it may help you I am very happy to talk to you further on the phone on 07748 068360.
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a form of therapeutic body work which uses touch, pressure, rotations and stretches to help you relax, relieve pain and improve your health and well being.
It calms the nervous system, enhances blood circulation and redistributes your energy. During a treatment, you may feel the ‘switch’ when your nervous system changes from fight/flight to deep relaxation. Shiatsu is particularly effective for stress and anxiety related health problems as well as musculoskeletal problems.
Shiatsu comes from Japan and is based on similiar principles as acupuncture, but instead of using needles the practitioner uses finger pressure, palms and sometimes elbows and knees. Shiatsu can be gentle or dynamic depending on your needs.
Qigong
Qigong (also spelled Chi Kung) is a Chinese system of exercise that focuses mainly on movements that are a highly effective health care practice. The movements are gentle, slow, rhythmic and fluid and so are appropriate to all abilities and age. The focus on posture, movement and breath encourage circulation of Blood and Qi (energy). It is a practice that is very relaxing and invigorating at the same time. Regular practice may enhance the immune system, build stamina and decrease stress. It is sometimes described as meditation in movement. Although I have over 25 years of Martial Arts training (Tai Chi, Aikido and Jujitsu) which has taken me to Japan and Malaysia on a number of occasions, my Qigong classes focus on the health and relaxation benefits and less so on the Martial aspects, nevertheless the basic principles are one.
Currently, I run Qigong classes in Bristol at The Penny Brohn Cancer Care for people affected by Cancer. I have trained with many renowned teachers and mostly in the lineage of Cheng Man-ch’ing and Master Huang (Tai Chi and Qigong) and The Osaka Aikikai (Aikido).
Private Classes
I will be running a new cycle of classes in Spring. Venue and dates to be confirmed. Please get in touch for more information on up and coming classes.
I will be giving a short qigong demonstration and intro class at The Bristol Museum on the 21st and 22nd Feb to celebrate the Chinese New Year (Goat )
