Counselling and Psychotherapy - individuals, couples and families
Life continuously throws each of us challenges. For a majority of the time, with help from our family and friends, we manage to ride life’s little ‘up’s and down’s’. However for some who have experienced difficulties or suffered trauma, life’s challenges have not gone so well. At a time like this support from experienced professionals can offer us a space to safely explore and work through our difficulties. Together we can begin to make sense of some of our experiences and begin to develop skills to build the personal resilience needed to continue to be successful in the future.
I have extensive experience of working with individuals, couples and families for both short and long term interventions providing a safe, confidential and professional space to explore a multitude of issues such as relationship difficulties, domestic violence, abuse, alcohol and drug misuse, self esteem, bereavement and loss and work place difficulties.
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)
Dyadic developmental psychotherapy has been developed by Dr Dan Hughes as a therapeutic approach that focuses on the relationship between child and parent or care giver. It is a widely recognized and respected approach that includes working with the child using a reflective dialogue, a conversation that includes both feeling as well as thinking. During this time the therapist explores all aspects of the child’s life, safe and traumatic, present and past and through the creation of a safe and secure connection , begins to support the child to experience a different understanding.
Sessions are conducted with both parents/carers and the child, individually and as a group over a period of time allowing space for reflection and future opportunities for discussion. If you are experiencing difficulties in your relationships please ask for more details on how this approach can help you and those you care about.
Clinical Supervision
As an accredited qualified practicing therapist who is registered with the Department of Health, I have extensive experience in delivering quality clinical supervision to practitioners from varying disciplines and backgrounds. My theoretical base is predominately psychoanalytic but I also utilise systemic, cognitive behavioural and attachment based approaches to case work. Clinical supervision is a vital component to safe and ethical practice and provides an essential part of supporting quality interventions in line with clinical guidelines recommended by professional regulatory bodies.
Supervision can be offered monthly in order to comply with professional guidelines or more frequently in response to individual need. All enquires are welcome.
