Welcome to Ambika Yoga As a Yoga practitioner, teacher and student, Alexa Kho has been developing her practice in the Art of Yoga for almost five years.
Venturing to Vrindavan, India in February 2008, Alexa was given the spiritual name “Ambika” by her teachers during the 200 Hour Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training course that she successfully completed.
In December 2009 she was awarded Highly Commended at the NHS Confederation for ‘Making the Confed a Better Place to Work’ with her Yoga Classes. Accredited with over 300 Hours as a Yoga teacher, Alexa completed a 100 Hour Anusara Immersion in June 2010 in London, and continues to be inspired by the practice.
For almost three years Alexa’s dedicated training into the heart opening and beautiful practice of Anusara Yoga has truly inspired her teaching. The practice was originally founded by John Friend and she was delighted to have met and trained with John in July on his 2010 World Tour when he was in London. Having travelled to Singapore in September 2010, she was also pleased to have met Anusara Certified Teacher, Bo Srey.
Her love for Anusara Yoga continues to grow and she is now looking at taking on her Anusara - Inspired training in the second part of 2011. With this continued dedication and adoration of her practice, public and private teaching Alexa is also taking her Yoga to the next level by taking steps to teach on a full time basis in the very near future.
“Love the Journey of Yoga by Breathing New Life”.
About Alexa Always intrigued by her Grandmother’s practice of Yoga, Alexa first stepped onto the mat whilst studying at Brunel University, London.
Fully enjoying and feeling the benefits of Yoga, in 2006 she then started a regular practice while working in London.
It was from this time that she noticed major shifts and changes in her mental, physical and spiritual well being. Having suffered from bouts of anxiety and depression in her past, Yoga enabled her to manage and learn to relax in what sometimes felt like a hectic lifestyle and environment. She also suffered from regular back pain due to poor posture and weak back strength, however through her committed practice of Yoga; she has overcome all of these physical and mental problems.
Alexa first trained and qualified as a 200 hour Yoga teacher in the style of Sivananda Yoga in India, February 2008. As a very meditative and traditional practice, Alexa learnt a great deal about the philosophical, ethical and physiological principles of Yoga. Deepening her physical awareness of her body and understanding of the concepts of teaching, she returned to London enthusiastic to teach and share her knowledge and love for the practice.
It was at this point that she began teaching her first Yoga class at LA Fitness Club, Piccadilly Circus, where she had originally begun her dedicated practice. Shortly after this she started Yoga classes for her fellow colleagues at the NHS Confederation, London on a weekly basis. In September 2008 she traveled to Mirleft, South West Morocco joining Huia Crosby on a Yoga Retreat where she taught, deepened her Yoga practice and learnt to surf the Moroccan waves!
Continuing to teach her classes, Alexa has her fingers on the pulse by frequently attending Yoga, Health and Fitness Events, Exhibitions and Workshops in London. In November 2008 she met her first Anusara inspiration and teacher, Dr Elena Voyce at The Yoga Show. Elena inspired her in the art of Anusara Yoga, and has also taught her the importance of fully opening to the creativity that resides inside us all by stepping outside of the box.
Having attended regular Anusara classes through Elena’s highly experienced teaching, Alexa’s curiosity then brought her to the Yoga Journal Conference in New York in May 2009.
Here she met and trained with some world class teachers including Desiree Rumbaugh, Shiva Rea and Ana Forest.
Alexa will be travelling to Hong Kong in June 2011 to attend the Evolution Asia Conference 2011.
