Welcome to Amethyst complementary therapies.
Hi my name is Jan-Marie, I offer allergy therapy, and massage therapy. My background is in nursing, as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) and also a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse (RSCN), I have worked in many different specialities including renal transplant. I now use these skills and knowledge in the holistic therapies that I practice. Having trained with The British Institute of Allergy and Environmental Therapy (BIAET) I am able to identify and treat many causes of ill health, bringing relief from daily symptoms. The massage therapies that I practice include aromatherapy, remedial, swedish and sports. I trained in massage at the Penny Price Academy and have a clinical diploma.
What is allergy and environmental therapy?
Allergies and intolerance can be identified by the use of applied kinesiology; a very small sample of an antigen, (anything from plant pollens to dental amalgam, or anything you would like tested), is placed over clothing on the umbilicus, and a muscle tested for the body’s reaction to it. This gives an indication that is about 98% accurate as to an individual’s tolerance to the test sample. This method of testing is completely non-invasive and safe for people of all ages. In addition to allergy and intolerance underlying infection, depletion and imbalance, including candida albicans can be identified and treated. Dietary advice, homeopathy and nutritional supplements are used to rebalance, strengthen, detoxify and desensitise the body, enabling balance, healing and the return of robust health.
Who will benefit from allergy therapy? What symptoms might I have if I need this kind of treatment?

- Chronic tiredness, lethargy, poor or inconsistent energy, poor memory, insomnia, low self esteem and low mood.
- Digestive problems; pain, bloating, wind, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, crohns, colitis.
- Sinus and respiratory problems, asthma, hay fever, perennial rhinitis and related problems.
- Skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, urticarial rash and acne.
Some testimonials.
“I had been suffering digestive problems for years, endless painful bloating and embarrassing wind seemingly regardless of what I ate or tried to avoid. I heard about Jan from a friend and thought, well I’ve tried the doctor and that was a waste of time, so I’ll try this and see if it works. The muscle testing was new to me but painless and not difficult at all, and by the time I left I had a list of foods to eat freely and a list to avoid and some treatment for candida was sent to me in the post. Within a week my symptoms improved and after a month when I went back for another appointment I felt better than I had for a long time. I saw Jan for five appointments over five months and now understand what foods do for my body, how to stay well and not get candida again. My health in general is much better, I look and feel well, other people have noticed, and don’t crave sweet sugary foods and feel tired, in fact my energy is better than it’s been for years. I recommend trying allergy therapy if you are often tired, unwell or have problems with foods, it really turned everything around for me when nothing else worked and I’m really glad I gave it a go, I’d still be suffering now otherwise.”

“My daughter had been getting indigestion and constipation, among other symptoms since primary school, her problems got worse with the exam stress and I looked around again for something that would help her. I saw an advert for the allergy therapy that Jan does and rang her for some more information. After talking to her I took my daughter along and she had some tests done. We found out which foods caused the problems and how to improve her diet without it being too restricted. My daughter felt better after only a few days and her health improved incredibly quickly. The guidance we had was just what we needed but impossible to work out without some help. I would say to someone with on going problems give it a try you have nothing to lose, everyday that you don’t get help is another day of illness that can be resolved. A friend of mine has also been to see Jan and been helped too with something she’s put up with for years, she’s also told friends and family about this kind of treatment.”

Massage therapy.
Massage therapy is beneficial to everyone. Chronic or acute stress responds well to massage, promoting relaxation and sleep. Aches and pains, fatigue and injury can all be treated in different ways to bring relief and calm to the body and mind. Essential oils enhance any massage; their therapeutic benefits are both varied and profound acting on both physical and emotional levels. Anyone can enjoy the benefits of essential oils, I choose oils according to the conditions I am treating you for and by muscle testing your response to them. This ensures that your blend is completely suited to your body and it’s needs, providing the best possible outcome from treatment.
Who will benefit from massage?
The short answer is “everyone”. However, I have listed some more specific symptoms that many of my clients feel massage helps them with.
- Stress and tension, chronic fatigue and exhaustion, insomnia, anger and anxiety, low mood and lethargy.
- Aches and pains, rheumatism and chronic or acute pain, muscle injury and R.S.I., headache and migraine, neuralgia and sinus pain.
- Poor circulation, pre or post exercise including competition, pregnancy and post pregnancy, scar tissue and menstrual cramps.
Some testimonials
“I found Jan on the Holistic Therapy Pages and rang her about massage. My stress at work was awful and I was having problems sleeping and felt exhausted but anxious and stressed all of the time, even at weekends. After discussing things on the ‘phone we arranged an aromatherapy massage as I’d had this before and thought it would help. The treatment was very relaxing and improved my sleep and restored my calm more and more as each week passed. Jan also prescribed some vitamins and herbal treatments to improve my situation too. The massage I had was very relaxing and enjoyable, with lovely scented candles burning and restful music playing, I really looked forward to it and the effects lasted. I thoroughly recommend massage to anyone feeling as I did or wanting some “me time” to relax.”

“I do a lot of sport and have massage to help prevent injury and ease out any tension left after training. My usual therapist went on maternity leave and so I found Jan and asked if she could take me on for some regular massage. I found her to be very good, my other massage lady didn’t use essential oils but I had them added to the oils when I had massage from Jan and they were great each time. I slept really well after the massage and began using blends she had mixed or me on any muscles that were sore after training so I’m a bit of a convert on the oils now and will use them whenever I think I need to. I’ve been having massage for years but always recommend it for anyone, my wife recently went to Jan for a pregnancy massage and really enjoyed it.”
