Welcome to Anna Williams Remedial Bodywork Therapy Page
Having graduated with a 2.1 BSc (Hons) from the University of Westminster, London, I have worked in a very wide variety of settings including therapy centres, nursing homes, offices, corporate events and many more. A large part of my work is through the South East Cancer Help Centre in London where I offer treatments to cancer patients and their carers and family members, to help them cope right from their initial diagnosis, throughout the cancer treatment process, to recovery or palliative care. I enjoy this work immensely and have amazing feedback from clients. I have also worked extensively with people with physical and mental disabilities such as Parkinsons, Alzheimer's, MS, Cerebral Palsy, HIV and brain injury. I am registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and the Aromatherapy and Allied Practitioners Association (AAPA), and have full insurance through Holistic Insurance Services (HIS).
Treatment
Swedish Massage - Soothing, relaxing massage where you can simply drift away. This massage uses oil (I usually use sweet almond or grapeseed oil) and is brilliant for relieving aching muscles so you're left feeling lighter and less tense. I recommend Swedish Massage not just for helping with general tension, but also for problems such as:
- Insomnia
- Arthritic pain
- Stress/ Anxiety
Sports Massage - A deeper and more invigorating treatment in which the affected areas of your body receive deep, focused massage techniques and both passive and assisted stretches. Although I often treat amateur athletes following injury or as a mean of injury prevention, it can also be used for people with chronic injuries and long-term muscle tension/poor posture. The techniques I use are great for lengthening shortened muscles and breaking down scar tissue. Sports Massage is used to treat:
- Poor flexibility
- Chronic injuries (e.g. strains, whiplash etc.)
- Long-term work or posture-related muscle tightness
Neuromuscular Therapy - I tend to use this alongside Sports Massage. Neuromuscular Therapy works best over a series of treatments where chronic muscle shortness and painful trigger points are released. I use a combination of techniques which aim produce long-term changes to the muscles and the myofascia (the wrapping around the muscles) by working with the nervous system. These sessions allow you to be very involved in the treatment. I recommend these sessions for problems similar to those listed for Sports Massage, for clients who want to be even more active in their recovery and see long-term results.
Thai Yoga Massage - I perform this treatment on a double-duvet on the floor so no massage couch is required. This is done through clothing and no oil is used. The treatment is a set routine which lasts for 90-minutes and includes the whole body, however for a shorter treatment you can choose the parts which you feel are most on need of attention.Thai Yoga Massage works with the energy meridians (sen lines) in your body. I use my thumbs, hands, feet and elbows to apply pressure along these lines which helps to unblock stagnant energy around the body. This massage also includes full-body stretches, based on yoga postures. You remain passive throughout the massage and will only be asked to breathe in or out deeply at suitable moments. Thai Yoga Massage is good for:
- Increasing flexibility
- Balancing the flow of energy around your body
- Relaxation and stress reduction
Indian Head Massage - Performed seated and clothed, this massage usually takes at least half an hour and can include you head, neck, shoulders, face, arms and hands. Although this can be performed traditionally, using deep pressure and rapid, stimulating techniques, it can also be gentle and relaxing, depending on what you feel you need. Indian Head Massage is great for problems such as:
- Stress/Anxiety
- Insomnia
- Headaches
Although you are welcome to request any one of the above treatments, I always tailor my treatments to your needs on the day and include various techniques from any of these forms of therapy. As Thai Yoga Massage requires the use of separate equipment please let me know in advance if you would like to book this specifically.
