Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession that specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are caused or aggravated by biomechanical problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves of the body, particularly those of the spine. Treatment involves a wide range of manipulative techniques designed to improve the function of the joints, relieving pain and muscle spasm. Advice on posture, diet and exercise may also be given.

The Evidence
As a result of the considerable body of scientific evidence regarding chiropractic care (spinal manipulation), clinical guidelines in both Europe and North America recommend spinal manipulation as a first "line of defence" in treating spinal conditions. Major clinical studies comparing chiropractic care of spinal ailments with other commonly used treatments have been carried out in the UK and published in the British Medical Journal. These studies have proven that chiropractic care provides excellent results and is also cost-effective.

Rehabilitation
Many of us move in our daily tasks, for example sitting, standing, picking something up, in such a way that we continuously aggravate the pain that we may be experiencing, or we may predispose ourselves to injury. In order to speed recovery and to help strengthen the body from further injury, a series of graduated rehabilitation sessions are included within the treatment. Further dedicated rehabilitation may be deemed necessary for patients who have poor core stability, or injuries associated with particular activities or sports.
If dedicated rehabilitation is required a personalised chiropractic/sports therapist programme is created for each patient.
