Craniosacral therapy brings your body into closer touch with its own healing resources. All kinds of illness or injury - major, minor and emotional - have disturbing effects on the body's detailed structure and function, many of which persist even when the original trouble has apparently eased. These injuries include the effects of birth itself (often the first significant trauma you experienced), as well as operations or dental treatment.
Many activities, such as dance, musical performance, sport or professional use of computers, can lead to persistent body patterns and stresses which may benefit from treatment.
Reactions to recent injury can be effectively treated, but Craniosacral therapy can also uncover and unwind old patterns of tissue resistance and congestion which have a chronic effect on both physical and emotional health. The treatment is extremely gentle and works on a subtle but profound level: the experience is often like being tuned. Treatment can help strengthen the immune system and provide support in chronic illness. It is a powerful approach where the body is disempowered through emotional stress or over-use (such as RSI, vocal strain, etc). A course of five or six treatments is usually recommended although sometimes marked benefit is felt much more quickly.
Craniosacral therapy is a very productive approach with children, and can help many with developmental and behavioural issues. All young babies can readily benefit, and a little early treatment may help prevent long-term problems which may arise from any degree of birth trauma. Treatment can also help you to cope better with pregnancy and childbirth, and postnatally.
My background experience ranges from the stressful corporate world to the performing arts, as a double-bass player and choral singer. I have two adult children of my own.
I have a dedicated treatment room in my own home, with separate street entrance and en-suite facilities. There is no waiting room and access is via steps. Bicycle and car parking is available: visitor's permits are offered free of charge. Appointments are available on a flexible basis - mornings are preferred, but other times may be possible by negotiation.
QUALIFICATION DETAILS My Craniosacral practice was established over twenty years ago. I have a degree in psychology and first became interested in bodywork in the early eighties. I undertook postgraduate professional training in Craniosacral therapy with Franklyn Sills in 1995-6, and have been a qualified member of the Craniosacral Therapy Association of the UK since then.
