Class descriptions

Beginners: for those new to the Pilates method. It is advisable that all new participants to Aspire Pilates enroll on a beginner course before progressing. These classes introduce the Principals of Pilates to participants and the classes are gentle and progress steadily through the fundamental exercises.

Beginner/Improvers: a mixed level class for new beginners and continuing attendees. The class will focus on the fundamentals of the technique but will bring in other exercises and progressions that will supplement the repertoire already covered in current classes, to enable those with some experience to further develop their practice.

General/intermediate: a progressive class that will continue to apply the Principals of Pilates in a more challenging way with progressions and new exercises to challenge the participant. Only those with previous Pilates experience should join this class.

Pilates can help to improve your posture, give you a better understanding of core strength and contribute to your overall sense of wellbeing.

Based in the North East of Fife, Aspire Pilates teaches matwork classes to small groups (of about twelve people, six people in St Andrews) which enables greater attention to those in the class. The classes are progressive and participants book for a block. Aspire is also able to offer one-to-one and small group sessions (two to three people) for clients who would prefer personal training with a programme specifically tailored to their needs.




Pilates Matwork

Matwork classes are taught in groups of about twelve participants, to enable a more individualised approach. Classes are an hour in length and focus on challenging the ‘core’ stabilising muscles with various exercises in different positions on the floor. All of the sessions start with a gentle standing warm up which focuses on alignment, breathing, posture and gentle mobilization of the joints. Participants work on a progressive and planned series of Pilates exercises that are modified versions of the original 34 Pilates exercises. Classes are gentle and can promote a sense of wellbeing while at the same time encouraging participants to increase their core strength and improve their posture and alignment.

Matwork classes can be booked in blocks of classes and it is advisable that all new participants to Aspire Pilates enroll on a beginner course before progressing. Classes are for the general public and are not suitable for those with specific conditions. You will be required to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PARQ) before joining the class. If you have any queries regarding this please do not hesitate to get in touch.

One to One

One to One sessions are available for those who wish to have a personal training Pilates programme. An initial consultation and postural assessment determines a clients strengths and weaknesses. From there a personalised programme is devised and the sessions can happen at a time that suits, and as often as required. These sessions are ideal for someone with a busy lifestyle or as a precursor to attending matwork classes. Small group sessions are also available for 2-3 people and are based on the same principles as a one-to-one session.

One to one session: £35 per session
Initial small group consultation (2-3 people): £55
