Massage therapy can relieve back pain, injuries, post-op, arthritic discomfort. Pre- and post-natal, or just for a lovely treat!
Our Treatments
My clinic, based in Churchill near Chipping Norton, offers remedial massage and lymphatic massage therapies which are supported by a cutting-edge technique which delivers saturated heat at a constant temperature.
What is remedial massage?
Remedial massage is a manual corrective therapy for muscular skeletal problems such as back ache, neck pain (including whiplash), general muscular tension, shoulder, knee, or ankle injury, repetitive strain injury, tension headaches, arthritis, circulatory problems, post operative treatment (effective in accelerating the healing process and preventing adhesions eg swollen ankle), tennis/golfers elbow (RSI), sports injury, pregnancy, stress, etc. Remedial Massage helps restore function to muscles and joints through massage, joint mobilisations and muscle tension release techniques.
It is also recognised as an effective complementary treatment to chiropractic work and it is common practice to find a remedial massage practitioner working in tandem with a chiropractic clinic.
Remedial massage is not a painful treatment, quite the opposite. It should be relaxing whilst a rehabilitation massage treatment is given to the injured area to aid healing.
What is saturated heat therapy?
I use a saturated heat therapy called La Therma™ which delivers heat at a constant temperature through pads which are placed onto the body. Warmed flax cloth which is soaked in warm water is placed in between the skin and the pad which prevents dehydration of the skin and lymphatic cells which lie underneath the surface of the skin (caused by dry heat methods).
La Therma™ saturated heat used prior to massage and as a poultice throughout the treatment delivers instant relaxation for the patient, softens the muscle tissue, and boosts circulation, thus allowing for a highly effective treatment without pain.

What is HELTh?
Heat Enhanced Lymphatic Therapy is a cutting-edge, brand new therapy which has just been accredited for training in the UK. It is a combination of massage and the application of mild, moist heat. It is a deeply therapeutic treatment which can trigger serious health benefits by providing strong stimulus to the vascular circulation. This enhancement of blood and lymph to the vascular and lymphatic systems accelerates healing mechanisms.
This form of massage therapy specifically focuses on the lymphatic system, identifying blockages and congestion which may be contributing to problems including joint ache, lack of energy, headaches, poor circulation, immune weakness (regularly catching colds etc), and chronic fatigue syndrome.
How can this help me?
Typical problems that can be helped by the above treatments:
- Neck pain
- Stress
- Back pain
- Pregnancy – ante and post natal
- Joint problems
- RSI (repetitive strain injury/tennis elbow)
- Arthritic pain
- Poor circulation
- Migraine
- Sluggish lymphatic system
- Sports injury
- Detoxification
- Post operative

What to expect during your visit
On your first visit, I will take down your medical history and health status. This will be followed by a postural analysis which will reveal any obvious imbalances in the way you stand and move.
Incorrect posture can be a major contributing factor to many musculoskeletal problems which in turn can impact on the circulatory and lymphatic systems.
Following this I'll have a clearer idea of the potential problem/s and will commence with an individual treatment. This may require remedial massage or a HELTh (Heat Enhanced Lymphatic Therapy) treatment, or possibly a combination of both. Every ‘body’ is different and therefore, every treatment I give is specific to an individual’s musculo-skeletal structure. This will be discussed with you and agreed beforehand.
If having a remedial treatment, you will have the option of a 5-10 minute relaxing saturated heat wrap which helps soften the muscle tissues and stimulates the circulation, allowing for an enhanced treatment.
Initial treatments tend to take approximately 75 minutes for a remedial therapy and approximately 60 minutes for subsequent treatments. HELTh treatments take between 1.5 and 2 hours.

"Over the past few years Andrea has treated me for both a long-term condition and for sports injuries when they have arisen. Her approach is professional, thorough and friendly. Discomfort is always reduced following a treatment with the added benefit of feeling very relaxed, as if I have had a real treat. Combined with the targetted exercises which Andrea recommends, the treatments are really beneficial. I would thoroughly recommend her!!" (JH - Small Business Owner)
"I came to Back Active after my office chair gave me aches and pains in my back and shoulders. After a proper massage and then a holistic lymphatic drainage treatment I was converted. Andrea has a magic touch and I strongly recommend the La Therma treatment. Apparently it relaxes many people to the point of sleep but I felt completely invigorated and buzzy afterwards! She also pointed out problems with breast tissue that I had missed and I've since been to hospital to have that reviewed. Many thanks and please consider me a regular client now."
