The Bowen Technique, in Sale and Goostrey, Cheshire
What is The Bowen Technique?
- Developed by Tom Bowen in Australia the technique has only recently come to the U.K. It is a unique therapy which stimulates the body's own healing responses and may adjust abnormalities which cause pain.
- The Bowen technique consists of a series of precise and gentle moves over muscle and connective tissue, interspersed with periods of rest in order for the treatment to be absorbed. It is a truly holistic therapy (treats the whole body).
Most people find it very relaxing as there is no manipulation involved.
- Bowen Therapy usually produces maximum results with minimum intervention. The majority of people feel some positive response after only one or two sessions. (Although a course of 2-3 treatments is generally recommended) in most cases only a few treatments are required to achieve relief from even long standing problems (eg chronic back pain & frozen shoulder).
- The treatment takes about 45 minutes and can help anyone from the newborn to the elderly.

I am Qualified Instructor with the original Bowen Association.
I have been teaching Bowen now for 6 years, and my students have a 100% pass rate.
The course is in a modular format, being taught over Eight 2 day modules ( usually at the weekend, but may be friday/saturday) and then an assessment module at the end. The whole course to qualifying usually takes approx 9-10 months.
The course is very informative and we normally have a lot of fun!

About the therapist
My name is Jan Williamson. I qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1987, then went on to do a post grad course in Neuro-medical and Neurosurgical nursing.
I then worked within the medical profession in various roles.
During this time I became more aware about the health benefits people can gain from complimentary medicine.
I heard about the Bowen therapy, and having suffered from a kidney complaint for almost 20 years, which gave me pain every day, I decided to give it a try.
After having one treatment I woke the next day pain free, and have not had a problem since!
I was convinced Bowen worked, and decided to give up my Nursing career to become a Bowen therapist in order to help people in a diffent way.
I hold a Diploma from the Bowen therapy acacemy of Australia (the original Bowen school) and am a member of the Bowen association UK.
I have since qualified as an Instructor and run courses throughout the year to teach people this revolutionary new skill.
I have been running my Bowen Clinic for 13 years and have attended several post basic courses including the Advanced Bowen and the Masterclass. As a Instructor my work is revised and assessed each year by Ossie & Elaine Rentsh who learned Bowen directly from Mr Bowen himself and brought the technique to the world.
Having been a Nurse, and also having children of my own, I like to feel I can put most people -from children to the elderly at their ease, allowing them to enjoy and benefit from the treatment.
Now everyday seeing the amazing results and helping people relieve pain, I keep hearing the same thing, " I have tried everything- but Bowen works"
