WHAT IS HOMOEOPATHY AND HOW CAN IT HELP ME?
Homoeopathy is an ancient system of medicine based on the discovery that a substance can cure the same problems it can cause. The practice of homoeopathy is both a science and an art. The homoeopathic remedies work by stimulating your body’s own healing power. Your body’s own immune system, self defence system or vital force is often capable of healing you unaided. Occasionally the healing process does not work as well, or as quickly as we would like. Homoeopathic remedies can then be used to act as a stimulus to the curative powers of the body.
WHO WILL I SEE AND WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
I am a fully qualified homoeopath registered with the Society of Homoeopathy and have been practising in this area for more than twenty years. I studied at Newcastle and also hold a degree in psychology. When you come for your initial consultation with me, you will be given time to discuss your health and emotional well being freely and openly in totally confidential and relaxed atmosphere. You will find you will need about an hour to do this. I then use the details from your case analysis to prescribe remedies which are tailor made to suit you, your personality, your temperament, your total symptom picture, to treat you, the whole person, not just single symptoms.
WHAT WILL THE REMEDIES LOOK LIKE, HOW WILL I TAKE THEM?
The remedies will often be given in the form of pills. Take them in a clean mouth, i.e. where there is no taste of food or toothpaste. Ideally do not eat or drink for 15 minutes before and after taking the remedy. Place the remedy under the tongue for 5 minutes before chewing it, the active ingredient will be absorbed by the membranes of the mouth. Do not handle the remedies. Use a plastic spoon to take them out of the envelope and put them straight in the mouth. Store the remedies away from strong light and strong odours and they will last indefinitely.
WHAT CHANGES SHOULD I LOOK OUT FOR AFTER STARTING MY REMEDIES?
After taking the remedies and especially in chronic conditions you will soon notice some changes. For instance it occasionally happens that your symptoms appear worse for a short time. This is the remedy taking effect and you should feel the beginnings of recovery when this period has passed. Alternatively patients often experience a period of exceptional well-being and optimism. If a runny cold or a rash or some form of discharge develops this will probably be the remedy having a “spring cleaning” effect, cleansing the body. These new symptoms will pass away, they are a very important part of the healing process.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
The length of time it takes for you to be relieved of your symptoms will depend very much on what sort of illness you have. A very slow developing complaint, such as a stomach ulcer, will not disappear over night, but another complaints can get better quickly. Complicated cases are relieved from the inside, working outwards. This means that superficial, outer symptoms, such as skin disorders are often the last to go. Thus the treatment works on the illness rather than merely working to relieve symptoms. Every case is different, just as no two patients are alike. If your doctor has prescribed tablets for you to take, it is still perfectly safe for you to take homoeopathic remedies at the same time. Sometimes it is dangerous to withdraw a drug, so continue to take it together with the homoeopathic medicine. Homoeopathic medicines never have an adverse effect on allopathic drugs. Occasionally an allopathic drug will inhibit the homoeopathic remedy from working by antidoting it. This is similar to the antidoting effect some people experience if they continue to drink coffee whilst taking remedies.
ARE THE REMEDIES SAFE?
Homoeopathic remedies are made from naturally occurring substances and cannot cause side effects and you cannot become addicted to them. This is because only a very minute amount of active ingredient is used in a specially prepared form.
