Our Service
Both the mum-to-be and her birth partner are taught how to:
- Achieve and retain relaxation - through breathing, self-hypnosis*, guided imagery and visualisation
- Breathing methods to help during labour and birth
- Release any fear or anxieties
- Taught to understand how birth is a completely natural event, which should be looked forward to
- Why birth should not be painful or feared
- Alter negative labour and birth perceptions, which have been heard, seen or experienced
- Help the birth partner to feel a part of the birth experience and not a bystander.
Birth partners are fully involved in the classes and are taught how to help you get into a state of relaxation and how to help keep you there. Given suggestions for how to help you both stay in control of your birth (regardless of chosen birth location) and to try to remove the feelings that are so often heard “I felt so helpless”
Thousands of years ago when a woman gave birth, everyone gathered around her for a “celebration of life”. However, western culture leads us to believe that childbirth is a painful and traumatic experience, requires medical intervention and the use of drugs to “get you through it”. Naturally this makes women fearful of giving birth.
With HypnoBirthing you learn how to release those fears and anxieties, learn how to relax sufficiently deeply to allow the birthing muscles to work effectively, comfortably and in perfect harmony. Understand why giving birth is a natural normal event that your body has been designed to do. During your baby's birth you will not be in a trance or sleep state, but will be awake, fully in control, fully involved and yet profoundly relaxed.
*The word hypnosis or being in an hypnotic state is often misconstrued. In essence it means being in a “dream like” state – similar to day dreaming, reading a book, being engrossed in a film. You are still fully aware of your surroundings and in total control but you are fully relaxed. Because you remain in control at all times, you cannot be made to do anything whilst in a state of hypnosis that you do not agree to.
