Reflexology
Reflexology is a relatively new holistic therapy based upon ancient principles. Reflexologists believe that there are points on the feet (or 'reflexes') relating to all systems and structures within the human body. Applying pressure to specific reflex points may stimulate energy flow via the corresponding nerve pathways. Consequently, energetic imbalances are cleared encouraging the body to rebalance and heal.
The practice of Reflexology endeavours to nurture the body, mind and spirit. It may be used to promote a deep state of relaxation or, alternatively, to invigorate and energise.
Who may benefit?
Reflexology may be effective for many conditions including:- Stress, anxiety and depression
- Headaches and migraines
- Breathing disorders
- Digestive problems
- Hormonal imbalances
- Fertility issues
- Muscle and joint pain
- Sleep disorders
- Low energy and Chronic Fatigue/M.E

NB. Reflexology is not intended to be a diagnostic tool. Should you have any concerns regarding your health, it is important to consult with a G.P. in the first instance.
Reflexology for Fertility
Planning a new addition to the family is often a time of great excitement. Many couples, however, also experience significant stress and anxiety as they try for a baby.
It is widely acknowledged that conception is more likely if both partners take time to nurture their health and overall wellbeing.
It is so important to reduce stress levels and, often, to slow down the hectic pace of modern life.
As a holistic therapy, Reflexology is designed to encourage the rebalancing of body, mind and spirit. Consequently, it may be extremely useful in promoting the ideal conditions in which conception can take place.
Gentle pressure applied to specific reflex points may help to stimulate the reproductive organs and regulate hormonal cycles in both men and women. Treatment is designed to encourage a deep state of relaxation in order to effectively alleviate stress and tension.
Maternity Reflexology
An increasing body of evidence indicates that reflexology may help to alleviate a whole range of common ailments encountered during pregnancy. Consequently, the use of reflexology by the NHS (and the private sector) has been steadily increasing over time especially in maternity units.
Maternity reflexology may be used to promote relaxation and to provide valuable physical, mental and emotional support. It may also help with:- Anaemia
- Anxiety
- Appetite regulation
- Backache
- Blood pressure regulation (with exceptions of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia)
- Bowel movement issues
- Diabetes prevention (gestational diabetes)
- Dizziness
- Haemorrhoids
- Heartburn
- Insomnia
- Muscular tension and fatigue
- Nausea and vomiting
- Oedema
- Pelvic floor - improving flexibility
- Sciatica
- Symphysis pubis diastasis
- Urinary tract problems (e.g. cystitis, difficulty urinating)
Is reflexology safe during pregnancy?
It is vital to always consider the safety of both yourself and your unborn child when considering any form of treatment during pregnancy (whether conventional or complementary).
Reflexology is a safe, gentle and non-invasive therapy. It encourages the body to rebalance, moving towards its optimal state. Research has demonstrated that women receiving regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy are more likely to have a shorter labour with reduced need for pain intervention.
Reiki
Over time, the practice of Reiki has been adapted to reflect the values of a variety of teachings and traditions. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religious belief system: it is abundantly available to all.
Reiki is used to release the energy blockages that are present when we are not in full health (on a mental, emotional, physical or spiritual level). This enables the flow of ‘Chi’ (or life force) to be restored, promoting inner harmony and our natural healing ability.
Reiki is:
· Universal life force
· Guidance from the highest intelligence
· A key to unlocking the vitality of life when we feel that we have lost our spark
· A natural way to ease pain and distress
· An abundantly available energy at any time
