Christine commenced training at the Nightingale School of Nursing at St Thomas’ Hospital London in 1974. Following a career in midwifery, Christine went into hematology and oncology nursing at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, where she first developed her interest in Lymphoedema having completed her Vodder (MLD) training in Austria and further training in Germany at the Foldi Institute.She started a Lymphoedema service at the William Harvey Hospital in 1997. For her service and commitment to her patients she was awarded the East Kent Nurse of the Year title in 2003, and has completed 37 years of service in the NHS. Christine has completed many courses related to Lymphoedema and Deep Oscillation Therapy and is a highly specialised and respected nurse. She is using deep oscillation therapy in the treatment of Lymphoedema, with very successful results. Christine has now started a private practice from her home at Kingsdown, near Deal in Kent.
Diagnosis and Management
Lymphoedema is the chronic swelling of a limb or part of the body. It develops due to a malfunction of the lymphatic vessels which drain tissue fluid.Lymphoedema may arise following the treatment of cancer. However lymphatic vessels may also become impaired due to surgery, injury, venous complications, immobility or genetic malformation of vessels
Lymphoedema is a chronic condition and if untreated can cause lifelong pain and disability. However with correct information, treatment and support it can be drastically improved and controlled.

- Preventative advice particularly following breast cancer surgery (or any other surgery involving removal of lymph nodes).
- Assessment to ascertain cause of oedema.
- Individual care tailored to the needs of the client.
- Measuring and fitting of lymphoedema compression garments.
- Manual lymphatic drainage massage.
- Deep oscillation therapy using a Hivamat 200.
- Kinesiotaping.
- Teaching of self management techniques.
- Ongoing monitoring of lymphoedema.
Deep Oscillation Therapy
Deep Oscillation Therapy is a form of therapy which creates an electrostatic field in the tissues thus promoting interstitial drainage. It is a very gentle, pleasant and relaxing treatment which is highly effective in rapid pain relief, muscle relaxation and reduction of oedema (swelling).

- To aid reduction and softening of swollen limbs (lymphoedema).
- General surgery aftercare, particularly hip and knee replacements.
